Beautiful place to be ,especially during holidays. The environment is serene for walks, picnics, and a run. It's my first time.
I went for a 5k walk, and it was worth it
Great views over the River dee and if you climb to the top you can see all around for miles and it's all free. Not open early in the morning or late afternoon if you need a drink it's advised to take your own or walk Into Flint Town and there's no toilets
Flint castle is a free cadw site on the Dee estuary, easy access by train , 7 min walk from the railway station. Beautiful walks along the estuary tarmac paths suitable for pushchairs, wheelchairs. Lower castle access for wheelchairs but most of the towers have steep steps. Great day out from the west midlands by train.
Nice little castle with a nice view. Unfortunately the timings are not 100% accurate, so I was unable to head up stairs.
The coastal path runs past and is a decent walk too. Kids enjoyed it, and it's free...can't say fairer than that.
Five star ruins with one small issue. Flint castle is the first of Edwards castles built to suppress the Welsh and taking a look around you get a feeling of just how foreboding this military monster would have been to any would be rebels. Unlike Caernarfon and to a lesser extent Conwy flint seems to have lacked any of the luxury's afforded to them. Instead you get the impression this was built for one purpose, to help the English get the foothold in Wales they needed. The ruins are fantastic with loads left to see. The tower that is separate from the main body of the castle and would have been accessible via draw bridge is something a little special being unique in Wales. The metal staircase that has been put in helps you get to the top of one of the towers is a great addition giving you fantastic views of the surrounding area.
My one issue is that because it's free to get in there are occasions when you will find people hanging around smoking and drinking and there does tend to be rubbish scattered around. Personally I would happily pay an entrance fee to avoid this being the case. However don't let this put you off coming to see this military masterpiece.
Great castle ruin, free to visit. Two towers to climb and explore. It was a great place to take a picnic and has these audio information boards dotted around, which i thought was a nice touch. Has a large car park with height restrictions.
Free !! No parking for the motorhome in the actual castle carpark (height barrier) but street parking immediately outside so virtually no difference for walking. More here than initially thought. Little towers to walk up, gorgeous estuary views, plenty of info boards - Edward 1 at it again ! marauding & claiming his entitlements !! Grassed area inside, no facilities, but lots of walking areas. Easy to get too from Flint Town Centre (follow Industrial Est signs).
A beautiful old ruin. I couldn't make it to the top of the tower as its quite high up but the views from the lower levels are still amazing. The walk to and from it around the coastline are peaceful and worth the walk.
